Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs)

Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) is a project for the inventors, scientists and researchers in the country, which provides with access to local based, high-quality technology information services and other related services. The project commenced in Bhutan in 2018 in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), wherein the Department of Intellectual Property (DoIP) acts as the focal point. 

Aim

The project aims to stimulate innovation and contribute to the economic growth of the country by facilitating access to technological information and assisting effective exploitation of the technological information from Patent Databases such as Patentscope, Espacenet, Google Patent, Indian Patent Search and US Patent Search. The project is also aimed at increasing awareness of all aspects of intellectual property rights throughout the country. 

Objectives

The objective of the project is to increase the use of prior art information or technological information and building awareness on IP more particularly on Patent and innovation in Bhutan.

Outcomes

The main outcomes of the project will be enhanced awareness on prior art search and state of the art on a given technological area, increased volume of patent application filling at DoIP and awareness on the local patent system being strengthened. 

Within the context of joint collaboration with DoIP, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) supports the effective operation of TISCs by;

• Facilitating access to patent databases and other scientific and technology resources
• Training local users through on-site and distance learning
• Providing information and training activities
• Supporting awareness-raising activities
• Disseminating best practices and experiences among TISCs

Following TISCs have been established with the aim of providing above services to the inventors.
